Ode
Ode, shot on Super 8, is the lyrical retelling of Ode to Billie Joe, Bobbie Gentry’s classic song about a teen-age girl processing memories of her first love after he jumps to his death from the Tallahatchie Bridge. The song’s story was made into a film version in the 1970s and has been reinterpreted countless times in music. Kelly Reichardt’s striking film continues the tradition of adaptation. Ode premiered at the 1999 New Festival in NYC and was presented at the 1999 Venice Film Festival. Director/Writer: Kelly Reichardt Clips to Come.
