The Mack
The year is 1973, and a motley group of actors and filmmakers descend on Oakland California, a city torn by poverty and inflamed by divisive racial politics. Their goal was to blow open a view on the world of pimps and prostitution. In the process, they got much more than they bargained for including attacks by the Black Panthers, the near meltdown of newcomer actor Richard Prior, and the violent death of a local pimp and advisor. Mackin’ Ain’t Easy rides the mean streets in the creation of the classic blaxploitation film, The Mack.
